A comparison of neuropsychiatric symptoms in early and late onset Alzheimer's Lead Investigator: Carmela Tartaglia Institution : Toronto West Hospital E-Mail : carmela.tartaglia@uhn.ca Proposal ID : 451 Proposal Description: Behavioral and psychological symptoms of Alzheimer???s disease (AD) play a significant role in patient and caregiver distress, and increased probability of institutionalization. Current literature suggests a difference in neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in early and late AD. However there is inconsistency in literature pertaining to the incidence in both groups. Some studies suggest higher incidence in late-onset AD, whereas, other studies suggest the opposite. The purpose of this study is to examine the progression of NPS in early and late onset AD. Moreover, we are interested in examining whether difference in NPS is associated with neuroanatomical correlates, specifically localized atrophy and white matter hyperintensities, using neuroimaging analysis.
